How about this for a crazy great fishing report? The Bogue Inlet Pier in Emerald Isle reserves the end of its pier for king mackerel fishermen. By mid-October they open it up for the bottom fishermen because king mackerel catches have all but disappeared. But not this year! Consistent king catches in the 20-25 pound range are a daily occurrence so the pier is still open for king mackerel business!
Offshore/near boats of the Crystal Coast fleet have been finding kings in the 30-40 pound range...
If less is better, then how about this for how well the offshore fishing has been for the Morehead City waterfront charter fleet: “The Sensation, Bill Collector, Dancin Outlaw, O Lucky Me, and Fighting Lady smoked the Wahoo, Mahi, King Mackeral, Blackfin Tuna, Sailfish, and even Yellowfin Tuna.” That report came from Captain Dale Britt of the Sensation describing a day of fishing last week. Now through the end of the year is the very best time of year to go offshore fishing.
Crystal Coast fishing has been hot under some rather cool weather conditions. Air temperatures along the beaches have barley slipped past the 80 degree mark. Water temperatures have remained just under that mark at around 78 degrees. These cooler conditions have kept the hot, stifling dog days of summer at bay and have allowed a variety of great fish catches to continue.
