Atlantic Beach sits on the eastern end of an island called Bogue Banks. The Atlantic Ocean is to the south of Atlantic Beach. Beaufort Inlet is on its eastern end and Bogue Sound and Morehead City are behind it to the north. The western end of Bogue Banks travels down to Pine Knoll Shores, Indian Beach, Salter Path and Emerald Isle.

If less is better, then how about this for how well the offshore fishing has been for the Morehead City waterfront charter fleet: “The Sensation, Bill Collector, Dancin Outlaw, O Lucky Me, and Fighting Lady smoked the Wahoo, Mahi, King Mackeral, Blackfin Tuna, Sailfish, and even Yellowfin Tuna.” That report came from Captain Dale Britt of the Sensation describing a day of fishing last week. Now through the end of the year is the very best time of year to go offshore fishing.
We have to start off the report about jumping mullet. We are right on the cusp of the great jumping mullet migration. The first strong and cool northerly wind we have known as a “mullet blow” will bring out literally millions and millions of jumping mullet from the sounds and backwaters through the inlets into the surf and inshore locations.
Crystal Coast fishing has been hot under some rather cool weather conditions. Air temperatures along the beaches have barley slipped past the 80 degree mark. Water temperatures have remained just under that mark at around 78 degrees. These cooler conditions have kept the hot, stifling dog days of summer at bay and have allowed a variety of great fish catches to continue.
