Thanks to some fantastic weather, this year’s fall fishing has been some of the best ever. But even has temperatures start to drop, don’t expect the fishing to slow down. This is a great Crystal Coast saltwater fishing report.
Captain Joe Shute reports, “The king mackerel are still picking up around the near shore live bottoms and wrecks. Northwest Places and the Big Ten area as well as the triple nickle area are pretty good for kings on the Westside. The 30 Minute Rock and the 1700 Rock area on the eastside of the Cape Lookout shoals are working well for kings”.
Inlet and inshore action along the Crystal Coast is red hot right now too. Captain Dale Brit of the sportfishing boat, “Sensation” fishing from the Morehead City waterfront has this report.
Crystal Coast Inlets and Inshore
“The boats were lined up in Beaufort Inlet yesterday afternoon working scores of flocks of Seagulls and schools of Bluefish. Fishing around the jetties boats were working on the Speckled Trout. Along the beach the fly fisherman were still putting a hurting on the False Albacore,” Captain Brit reports.
Both the Jolly Roger and Bogue Inlet Piers have been consistently landing keeper flounder. Fish right behind the breakers and around the pilings for them. The false albacore that all the boats are chasing after are being landed on the piers as well. These fish have been averaging in the 5 to 6 pound class.
Saltwater Fishing Tip
Here’s a fishing tip for you. To better control a fast swimming, hard fighting fish like false albacore, pump the fishing rod from the side to side. Don’t pump from parallel to the ground to perpendicular. Side to side action will keep the fish swimming towards you.
The biggest news I kept for last. The puppy drum action in the surf and on the piers has been extremely good. In fact it has been some of the best catches in many years off of Bogue Banks. Mix in a bunch of black drum catches with it and you’ll find you can’t hardly beat this drum (action)!
