About The Area

The ICW is literally at the Cedar Point Villas back door. It is a 3,000 mile stretch of waterway that traverses the inside of the eastern seaboard and Gulf of Mexico. Boaters can reach just about anywhere from the Cedar Point Villas docks within the protection of the ICW.

The ICW was dredged out by the Army Corps of Engineers back in the 1920’s. This federally maintained waterway averages 15 feet deep. The materials dredged up were used to create a seemingly never ending chain of spoil islands. These islands which have been around for almost 100 years are replete with flora and fauna of the area. Birds such as Herons, Sea gulls, Osprey, Egret, Pelicans and a variety of others can be found. Deer have been known to swim across from the mainland and Bogue Banks to these islands.  And don’t be surprised if you see goats too!

These islands make great retreats and coastal hideaways for all that venture to them. Swimming, shelling and relaxing in the sun on an uninhabited island. Best of all, the closest spoil island from Cedar Point Villas is only a few hundred yards away!

If you are fishermen then here are some of the fish you can expect to catch without ever leaving Cedar Point Villas subdivision. Speckled trout, red drum, flounder, spot, croaker, hog fish, blue crabs and shrimp to name a few.

Boaters have access to anything the Atlantic Ocean offers. Inshore fishermen catch king and spanish mackerel, bluefish, spadefish and albacore/false albacore. Fishing one of the many artificial wrecks, reefs and live bottoms produces a wide range of fish like sea mullet, gray trout, flounder, amberjack, sailfish, dolphin, and big bluefish.

Offshore fishing ranks supreme with fishing grounds that have produced blue marlin in excess of a 1000 pounds. White marlin, sailfish, wahoo, yellowfin and blackfin tuna as well as dolphin (mahi-mahi) are common offshore catches.

The winter time bluefin tuna fishery is one of the best in the world. These monsters of the deep come in close to shore. They can be caught in 30-40 feet of water and average in the 300 to 500 pound range.

Scuba diving in the area is world class. The waters off of the Crystal Coast are consistently ranked as some of the best in the world. Known as the “Graveyard of the Atlantic” the North Carolina coast offers over 2,000 wrecks to dive on. (But that’s just the number of wrecks that we know of!)

What makes diving the Crystal Coast so special are its warm and clear waters. It is unique to the area and not found elsewhere along the North Carolina coast. Water temperatures can be in the lower 80’s from top to the bottom while offering over 150 feet of water clarity.

Cedar Point is the western most edge of Carteret County. The White Oak River separates it from the historic town of Swansboro, NC. Cedar Point sits mainland right behind Emerald Isle and all of Bogue Banks. It takes about 10 minutes to leave Cedar Point Villas and be sitting and enjoying the beaches of the Crystal Coast-All 26 miles of it!

Access to and from Cedar Point is extremely easy by car or boat. Highway 24 is a 5 lane highway that runs through town. The ICW is just yards away from shore offering access to anywhere along the eastern seaboard. Morehead City, Atlantic Beach and Beaufort are all 15-20 minute drive from Cedar Point
