Saltwater Fishing Report

Thanks to some fantastic weather, this year’s fall fishing has been some of the best ever. But even has temperatures start to drop, don’t expect the fishing to slow down. This is a great Crystal Coast saltwater fishing report. Captain Joe Shute reports, “The king mackerel are still picking up around the near shore live bottoms and wrecks. Northwest Places and the Big Ten area as well as the triple nickle area are pretty good for kings on the Westside. The 30 Minute Rock and the...

Radical Change In Mortgage Lending

I got the following message from the Congressional Budget Office last week about H.R. 2767, Protecting American Taxpayers and Homeowners Act of 2013. “H.R. 2767 would require the Federal Housing Finance Agency to repeal the charters of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and end the operations of those firms five years after enactment of the bill. Thus, after 2018, those two government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs) would cease to guarantee new mortgages.” How significant would it be to the housing market if Freddie and Fannie went away? According to...

North Carolina has the 6th lowest set of lender fees in all of the US according to a recent survey conducted by Bankrate, Inc. In this survey North Carolina was only bested by Hawaii, Alaska, South Carolina, California and New Mexico.

Crazy Great Crystal Coast King Catches

How about this for a crazy great fishing report? The Bogue Inlet Pier in Emerald Isle reserves the end of its pier for king mackerel fishermen. By mid-October they open it up for the bottom fishermen because king mackerel catches have all but disappeared. But not this year! Consistent king catches in the 20-25 pound range are a daily occurrence so the pier is still open for king mackerel business!

Offshore/near boats of the Crystal Coast fleet have been finding kings in the 30-40 pound range...

Affects of Government Shutdown on Local Real Estate

Government Shutdown. 70 percent of all loans made this year in the Crystal Coast and surrounding areas involved either Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, VA or a FHA Loan. To put it another way, the federal government has its hands in almost ¾’s of all mortgage loans made in 2013. So will the government shutdown affect your ability to get a loan? Will it slow or stall your upcoming closing? Will interest rates go up? The good news is that mortgage rates tend to go the opposite...

Crystal Coast Real Estate Market Report

Here is the painful truth about the Crystal Coast real estate market place. The Crystal Coast has a Wal-Mart size of inventory but it has a convenience store sized customer base. The area has never been able to handle successfully more than 1,000 active homes for sale at a single time. We’ve been above 2,000 active properties since the year 2005. Normally when you have an excess of inventory you reduce price to motivate sales. Crystal Coast homes are on average about 10 percent...

Coastal Fishing Report in a Word – Great!

No other time of the year do we have such perfect weather and fishing conditions as we do right now. Come down to the Crystal Coast and Go Fish Now! Offshore boats have done extremely well with wahoo catches so far this year. It has been one of the best seasons for wahoo catches in many a year. Dolphin (mahi-mahi) landings are still hot and heavy with yellowfin, blackfin and albacore tunas mixed in. Although this neck of the woods thinks of blue marlin in June, white...

Early Fall Crystal Coast Fishing Report

If less is better, then how about this for how well the offshore fishing has been for the Morehead City waterfront charter fleet: “The Sensation, Bill Collector, Dancin Outlaw, O Lucky Me, and Fighting Lady smoked the Wahoo, Mahi, King Mackeral, Blackfin Tuna, Sailfish, and even Yellowfin Tuna.” That report came from Captain Dale Britt of the Sensation describing a day of fishing last week. Now through the end of the year is the very best time of year to go offshore fishing.
