Carteret County Public Boat Ramps

The Crystal Coast of North Carolina is blessed to have one of the cleanest and most productive waterways you can find anywhere. As a result there are nine public boat ramps with parking of various sizes scattered all throughout Carteret County that are run and maintained by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. They can be found in Cedar Island, Salter’s Creek, Cedar Point, Emerald Isle, Newport, Morehead City and Beaufort. All of these boat ramps are free and open to the public. This list does not include private or fee based boat ramps.

1) Cedar Island, Pamlico Sound

Address: 115Driftwood Dr., Cedar Island, NC

From the junction of US 70and NC 12near Sea Level, travel on NC 12north 11.7miles. Turn right on Driftwood Rd. and travel 0.3miles to the area at the end of the road.

2) Cedar Point, Intracoastal Waterway

From the intersection of NC 58and NC 24in Cape Carteret, travel on NC 24west 2.4miles. Turn left to the area.

3) Emerald Isle, Intracoastal Waterway

From the NC 58Bridge in Emerald Isle, continue on NC 58(Emerald Dr.) east 3miles. Turn left to the area.

4) Morehead City, Intracoastal Waterway

From the junction of NC 24and US 70in Morehead City, travel on US 70east 2.7miles. Turn right to the Crystal Coast Visitors’ Center. The area is behind the center.

5) Newport, Newport River

Address: 333East Chatham St., Newport, NC

From the junction of NC 24and US 70in Morehead City, travel on US 70west 3.7miles. Turn right on E. Chatham St. (SR 1247) and travel 1.4miles. Turn right to the area.

6) Salter’s Creek, Salter’s Creek

Address: 200Wildlife Ramp Rd., Sea Level, NC

From the junction of US 70 and NC 12, near Sea Level, turn left on Wildlife Ramp Rd. and travel 0.3 miles to the area at the end of the road.

7) Oyster Creek, Core Sound

From the junction of US 70and NC 101, east of Beaufort, travel on US 70east 18.5miles. Turn right to the area.

8) Straits Landing, North River

Address: 1648Harkers Island Rd., Straits, NC

From the junction of US 70and Merrimon Rd. (SR 1300), 5miles east of Beaufort, travel on US 70east 4.9miles. Turn right on Harkers Island Rd. (SR 1332) and travel 3.8miles. Before crossing the bridge, turn right to the area.

9) West Beaufort, Newport River

CARTERET COUNTY N 34° 43′ 32” W 76° 39′ 47”

Address: 298West Beaufort Rd., Beaufort, NC

From the east end of the drawbridge on US 70in Beaufort, travel on US 70east 0.3miles. Turn left on Turner St. (SR 1174) and travel 0.4miles. Before reaching W. Beaufort Rd., turn left to the area.
