The Eastern Region is a great place to live
The Eastern Region employers enjoy a high degree of stability in the work force despite the transient nature of people nowadays. The simple fact is, people like it here. And they want to stay.
You can hardly name a national publication that hasn’t raved about our quality of life. Perennially ranked among the best places to live, the Eastern Region of North Carolina is populated by comfortably sized communities where the neighborhoods are safer, the people are friendlier, the lifestyle is more relaxed, the commutes are shorter, and just about everything is more affordable than in our big city counterparts.
With one boundary formed by the famous North Carolina coast, and another by the high-tech miracle of the Research Triangle area (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill), the Eastern Region stirs up a charming blend of down-home and uptown.
A thriving arts community and a major state university fuel the cultural scene in the Eastern Region, and the outdoor recreation opportunities are almost endless. So whether your idea of fun is a blue grass jam session on the town square, a planetarium exhibit, a day at the lake, or major college sports, you’ll never run out of things to do.
The area is also full of history, dating back to the 16th century, when the first English settlement was built - and then vanished. There are also sites from pre-Revolutionary Days through the Civil War. Not to mention the historic lighthouses (including the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, which at 208 feet is the tallest brick lighthouse in the nation).
The city of Wilmington is a major US seaport. And, in 1903 the Wright Brothers ushered in the era of flight at Kitty Hawk.
A mild climate, and plenty of ways to use it.
The Eastern Region is blessed with a temperate four-season climate. The average annual temperature here is 63 degrees.
And, not coincidentally, more ways to enjoy it than you can shake a 5-iron at. Or a fishing rod. Or a beach umbrella.
The growing season lasts 295 days.
Outdoor recreation is, to put it mildly, huge here
Warmed by the Gulf Stream, the North Carolina Coast is a sunny place filled with pristine beaches, giant sand dunes (including Jockey's Ridge, the highest along the East Coast) and wetlands filled with wildlife and a variety of plants. The defining characteristic of the area is the Outer Banks, a chain of fragile barrier islands - 130 miles of white sandy beaches and unspoiled coastline surrounded by 900 square miles of water.
Golf season stretches year-round, and can be enjoyed at courses and resorts that are among the best in the world. And the Eastern Region is among the state’s most popular venues for fishing, hunting, boating, cycling, scubadiving, surfing, kayaing, canueing and other outdoor activities.
